On September 11, 2001, out of that clear blue sky came a stunning attack. Islamic fundamentalists hijacked four commercial airliners and used them as missiles against the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. Almost 3000 people were killed and America's response was swift.
We have heard a lot about the World Trade Center when it comes to this tragedy, but what about Pentagon? Five al-Qaeda hijackers took control of Flight 77 and crashed it into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. 64 people on the airliner and 125 people in the building were killed. The plane severely damaged the structure of the building and caused a partial collapse. When they rebuilt the damaged section of the Pentagon, they also built a memorial and a chapel for the people who had died. Every year at September 11, they light one candle for each of the persons that died to honor their memory.
Yes it is interesting that we hardly talk about the Pentagon. It was a risky operation and a lot of important information was in the Pentagon. 125 people in the building are a lot of people and in important positions too I would imagine.

I have to agree with Ann here, I found it interesting how you decided to focus on the attack on Pentagon as well. I like how you added a picture to your entry, I have to admit that I haven't seen many pictures of Pentagon after the attack: What a massive destruction!

SvarSlettI kind of think that some people decide to use terror as a communication tool because of their religion or to scare people. Maybe they think that sacrifising their lives will give them honour?
That was a very scary and sad day for this country. I have heard that some people came here and went to learn how to fly a plane but not land on. To me that should have been looked into. The attacks on 9/11 did not tear our country apart, it brought it closer together. That day will live in infamy forever.
